Any student planning to take a CCP class at Cleveland Community College in the fall needs to complete an approval form and return it to the guidance office by today.  These forms can be located in the guidance office.  This approval form only needs to be completed by those planning to take a course on the campus of CCC, not the ones taking courses here at Burns, because these courses will start before our school year begins in August.

Today you will report to 4th period from 8-11:30 and 3rd period from 11:35-3.  English 2 EOC this morning.  Teachers please have all students in your regular classes physically pull out cell phones and turn them off.  We don’t need any extra pull off of our servers or unnecessary activity that will impact the entire 10th gr taking the on line exam.  Also, if you are teaching today please do not use the internet during the morning session so we can keep the testing opportunity more reliable.

Students please remember to make sure that you have money in your lunchroom accounts for bag lunches today and tomorrow.  Any debts you have on your account must be paid by the end of the school year during breakfast.

Graduation is set for tomorrow at noon.  All guests must have a ticket to enter.  Remember that staff working the event needs to meet tomorrow on the concourse at 1030am for a meeting before the doors open.  

Monday is the last day of school.  We will dismiss at 1130am.  We will test 4th period teacher final and CTE post assessments.  NO lunch will be served Monday.

Today you will report to 2nd period from 8-11:30 and 1st period from 11:35-3.  Biology EOC will also be given this morning starting at 8am.  Algebra 1 EOC will be on Thursday morning and Eng 2 EOC will be Friday morning.  Remember that these EOCs and CTE exams are what we as a school and you are evaluated by each year.  These tests need to be taken seriously.  The recent MSL scores that came back were very good for BHS.  Please don’t assume that these EOCs and CTE exams will be as short or even easier than the MSL.  Try your best and check your work…take your time…do your best.  Our EOC is on line so teachers please refrain from any unnecessary internet use during the morning and please have students turn off their phones during this period so they won’t possibly pull the signal strength down.

Washington Missionary Baptist Church is hosting a public forum on gang awareness and prevention on Saturday at 5pm.  This is open to all community members.  To learn more, please see the fliers at the office.

Interact club will visit Hospice on Thursday after school for an ice cream social with the patients and their families.  Interact members are asked to bring in an ice cream topping for the social and to also bring paper products so we can help stock their kitchen supplies.  Bring these items to the career center by 3pm Thursday and see Mrs. Benfield if you will be going to Hospice to help scoop and deliver ice cream.

Congratulations to these Interact Club members....Serena Hill and Brittany Foster. They have been chosen for a Rotary scholarship to attend the Seminar for Tomorrow's Leaders at Catawba College in July. Serena and Brittany will represent us well.

Today is one of the last normal days of the year.  Tomorrow starts senior exams and MSLs in almost all courses.  This means that tomorrow, you will go to first period from 8-noon and have your class and a bag lunch.  Teachers with a first period, please make sure you have communicated with Mrs. Hurdt in the cafeteria to confirm your class order and make a copy for yourself.  Then we will test from 1205-3pm for second period.  We will wrap up senior exams and MSL testing on Thursday.

Those students planning on going to the National Whitewater Center with the Outdoor Adventure Club on June 1st need to turn their money and forms into Ms. Kahn as soon as possible.  The hard deadline for all forms and money is May 28th, but in order to make sure you have reserved a seat, it is best to turn in all requested items to Ms. Kahn, in room 107, as soon as you can.

SGA is selling Kiss Goodbyes to seniors all this week.  They are $.25 each or 5 for $1.  Make sure you know their 4th period and they will be delivered Tuesday 5/28 to 4th periods.

Auto Parts U Pull and Scrap Metal of Shelby will take donations today to deliver to the Oklahoma tornado victims.  There will be a box in the front lobby of the school to leave items in.  Please bring clothes, shoes, drinks, water, bathroom products and canned goods.

If you are interested in being on a robotics team there will be an introduction meeting tonight at 6 for students 9 – 12th grade at CCC in room 1148. The FIRST program promotes teamwork and team building skills to produce a working and real robot from a kit in a limited amount of time. This is a great experience that would be a thrill to anyone interested in programming, electronics, and mechanical building.

COMPASS testing will be again this morning in the career center.  This is the second round of placement testing for CCP course participation for next year.  Please plan accordingly if this involves you.  After this round, you will need to plan on testing on the CCC campus before the fall semester begins.

Attention rising sophomores or juniors...this announcement is for you. If you love computers and technology then you will want to attend the very first Computer and Technology Camp June 11th thru 14th at Cleveland Community College. This will be the first four days you are out of school this summer. The camp is free and your lunch will be provided each day. You do have to provide your own transportation to and from CCC. The Shelton Challenge, sponsored by NC State, is a one week summer experience for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors with a 3.0 or higher G.P.A.  The focus is on team-building, leadership skills, social responsibility, public speaking, and goal setting. The summer Driver Education class has been set for July 8th - 19th from 8-11 AM.  You must be 14 1/2 by the first day of class in order to enroll.  Registration forms are located in the main office.

Soccer beat Tuscola 4-1.  They will play at home 6pm Wednesday against Enka in the third round of the state playoffs, admission will be $6.  

Congratulations to the following NCHSAA 3A State Championship track athletes:
Becca Benfield finished 10th in the State in Shot Put- Breaking her own school record once again!  She also finished 12th in discuss.
Valerie Walker finished 13th in the State in 800M also breaking her own school record once again.
The Boy's 4 X 100 Relay team:  Jalen King, Tra Hunt, Chris Montgomery and Tylan Ruff finished 12th in the State also running their best time for the season.

Varsity baseball won last night against Patton 5-4.   JV won 7-1.

Varsity soccer won 7-1 and JV 4-1 against Patton as well.  With this win they have won at least a portion of the conference championship for the 3rd straight year!

The Burns High softball team won 5-4 against county rival Kings Mountain on Monday.  They will play away at Freedom today. Bethany Acree hit a 3 run HRun, Allison Cooke 2 RBIs, Candace Fitch struck out 13.

Golf team lost yesterday.  Burns and Shelby will be joined by Crest and Kings Mountain for the county golf match at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Deer Brook.
