A bit more about me

I grew up in Shelby, NC I attended James Love Elementary, Cleveland 6th Grade School, Shelby Junior High, and finally graduated from Shelby High in 1982.  I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro cum laude in 1986 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, principle emphasis on choral conducting and piano performance.  I graduated from Converse College magna cum laude in 1992 with a Master's Degree in Music Education, with an emphasis in voice and a Kodaly certification.

I began my teaching career in the Montgomery County Schools, 1986-1987, teaching chorus and drama at East and West Montgomery High Schools.  I returned to Shelby and began teaching at James Love Elementary (general music) and Shelby High School (chorus) in 1987.  I remained in this position until 2002.  I taught chorus and general music at Bessemer City Middle School during the 2002-2003 school year.  I then returned to Shelby where I remain.  From 2003-2006, I taught chorus/general music at Shelby Middle School and chorus/music theory at Shelby High School.  During the 2006-2007 school year, I taught general music at Marion School and chorus at Shelby High School.  From 2007-2008,  I taught chorus/music appreciation at Shelby High School.  During the  2008-2009 school year, I will be teaching chorus and music theory/piano keyboarding.

During the late 80's through the mid-1990's, I spent a considerable amount of time playing piano and keyboards for various shows with the Greater Shelby Community Theater.  I was the accompanist for the Cleveland County Choral Society from 1988-1999.  I have been employed by various churches for the last 26 years as either a summer youth minister, summer  evangelism team accompanist, interim choir director, or church pianist.  I currently serve as pianist at First Baptist in Kings Mountain, recently completing my 11th year.  I play piano frequently for weddings and funerals.

I married Jim Aderholdt in 2000 and we have two beautiful children:  Christina (born in 2002) and Jacob (born in 2004).  My family is certainly the joy of my life!
