Dear Parent or Guardian,
I am real excited about having your child in my math class this year. It is always a pleasure to be
a part of a child’s education. This year your child will be studying five main goals.
Goal 1: Understand and compute with rational numbers.
Goal 2: Understand and use measurement involving two and three-dimensional figures.
Goal 3: Understand and use properties and relationships in geometry.
Goal 4: Understand and use graphs and data analysis.
Goal 5: Demonstrate an understanding of linear relations and fundamental algebraic
concepts.
Materials needed:
3-ring binder to place notetaking guide and practice workbook in.
Pencils only and highlighters.
Spiral notebook to keep homework in.
Notebook paper to do class work on.
Grading:
1. Homework 20%
2. Quizzes 30%
3. Mini assessments 10%
4. Test 40% (Students will be able to correct missed problems as long as they give the reason for
missing it. I will add back point to the test grade.)
Discipline:
1 check mark = warning
2 check marks = meeting with teacher or teachers and seating change if necessary
3 check marks = a phone call, letter or e-mail advising parents of student’s behavior
4 check marks = a level drop which results in the loss of privileges as outlined in student
code of conduct handbook.
Any further behavioral problems or rule violations will result in an office referral and a visit to
the office.
Each week students who have not reached level drop status have an opportunity to start with a clean
slate.
Checks are added from all three academic classes, and from your encore classes. All are added
together and will result in the disciplinary actions outlined above.
