The Burns High School Career Center is available to students who are researching careers or colleges, and to students who are completing coursework and class projects. Funded by Career & Technical Education, the Center is equipped with a computer lab and internet access, iPads that are used in CTE classes, other technology, and career-related resources. The Career Development Coordinator, Rhonda Benfield, has an office inside the Career Center. She facilitates the use of resources, advises students, and assists teachers with curriculum needs.

Mrs. Benfield has worked as the CDC at Burns High School since 2000. She holds a B.A. degree in communications from UNC-Chapel Hill, and teaching certificates in business and marketing from NC State. She is certified in career development and by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in the area of CTE Human Services. She lives in Lawndale with her husband, Chris, and two children, Becca and Zach. Her hobbies are watching her children play sports, beach trips, photography/videography, and picture framing. She is the advisor for the National Technical Honor Society and the Interact Club. She has a passion for helping young people explore options for their future.
