Dear Parents/Guardians:

This letter is to inform you and your child of the expectations I have for him or her in the coming school semester.  A list of these expectations for how I expect him or her to conduct his or herself in my class accompanies this letter in the form of the webpage sylabus for the course your child is enrolled in.  Also included in that sylabus are classroom procedures and rules that should be followed.  Please read and discuss these with your son or daughter.

It is my desire that every student succeeds in my class.  If your child needs extra help after school, I plan on being available on Wednesday afternoons until 4:30 as needed until the winter sports season begins.  Students needing to stay need to notify me as early as possible to ensure that I will be available or if I will not be available that week, we can make other arrangements.  Once basketball practice begins, I cannot guarantee my availability, but if students need help after school and they will let me know, I will try to arrange for him or her to stay with another math teacher.

Please discuss with your child the importance of not having excessive absences in mine or any other class.  Excessive absences lead to a lack of understanding of material and lower performance on tests and classroom work.  Students are allowed to miss only six class periods that are not school related activities approved by the principal.  On a similar note, please stress to them the importance of being to class on time and not being tardy as this affects their performance as well as that of other students as it takes time away from them--three tardies translates into one absence as well as additional consequences.

I plan on trying to keep you as informed as possible about your child’s progress in my class.  Progress reports and report cards will go out approximately every three weeks of school.  These will tentatively go out on the following dates…

September 18
November 27
October 9
December 18
November 6 (report cards)
January 31 (January 18 is the last day of the 1st semester)
