Book Club Rules
· Be prepared! Make sure that you have read the assigned pages before you meet with your book club, and BRING your book to class EVERY DAY.
· Do not read ahead! You may only read the assigned pages…no matter how badly you are left hanging and want to read on! You do not want to spoil or accidentally give away part of the story to your classmates.
· You must write at least one “track” per reading assignment! A track is a note about something you would like to discuss with your group the next day. It could be a thought, question, or prediction. Jot down the page number and a brief description of what you want to talk about.
· In addition to writing a daily track, you will have a weekly role sheet. Every Friday when you meet with your group, each person will share his or her work from the week.
· Be a good listener! When someone in your club is sharing an idea or thought from their track or role sheet, you should pay attention.
· Everyone participates! Take turns sharing your thoughts, questions, and predictions. You are to be a speaker and a listener each time that you meet.
· Be respectful. You may have a different opinion about the book than someone in your book club. That is okay! Listen to their opinion and then share yours. It is okay to have different ideas!
· Stay on task. All of your conversation should revolve around the book. Save other conversations for lunch or after school.
· Learn from each other. Someone in your group may be able to answer a question that you have. If none of you know, take time to find the answer together!
· Enjoy yourself! This is a time to sit and discuss the book you are reading with classmates.
