 Renaissance Reading
Renaissance Reading is our independent reading program at Burns Middle School. Students read books
that are on their reading levels (determined by the STAR test given two times a year).  Each
student will conference with his/her teacher to determine a fair reading goal to be met during each
nine week period. Renaissance Reading, RR, counts 20% of students' Language Arts Grade.

Spelling:

As a part of our spelling study, we are learning about word parts.  Words are built with parts that give meaning; root words, prefixes, and suffixes. Knowing how to break down a word into parts is essential to reading comprehension and vocabulary building. Each week students study five stems and ten words (these words contain the roots and stems for the week).  Students are to complete a weekly activity utilizing their spelling words. A test is given at the end of each week.
